5 Bases for Perfect-Skin Skin
5 BASES FOR PERFECT-SKIN SKIN
I think I've written this sentence a million times: but my number one question always is 'what foundation are you wearing?' Not because I have particularly good skin, but because I know how to make it look like I have particularly good skin. I've done a post about my Glowy Skin Tricks before, but I wanted to do a follow up post specifically about the foundations that I use the most. Definitely refer to that post for how I prep my skin, but onto the bases!
My all time favourite foundation. I say this with confidence, I highly doubt anything will every replace this. I've gone through an entire bottle, and as a foundation floozy that never happens. It's the perfect every day foundation because it gives a decent medium coverage without looking like you're wearing foundation. It blends seamlessly, and almost blurs skin's texture making it look as smooth as butter. My mama doesn't wear foundation often but when she does it's this. She loves it because it doesn't settle into her fine lines at all.
We all know Charlotte goes a little over the top when describing how GLORIOUS her products are, but this is really supermodel skin in the bottle. Just add a little spot concealer where needed and you're good to go.
For reference I'm wearing shade 2 and you can see it in the photo below. Read more about it here.
This one is very similar to the CT, but a wee bit less coverage. Again, a super regular in my routine and I've definitely gone through a few bottles of this through the years. It's got a lot of love and a lot of hate, and honestly I'm surprised by how many people hate this product. In my opinion, it's an incredible every day base, evening out redness while letting the skin shine through.
Despite giving the skin a slight glow, it sets down and doesn't budge. It also doesn't settle at all, and leaves my pores and fine lines out of the picture all day. Because it's water-based and super thin in consistency, it's really easy to build up to a medium coverage. Dare I say you could attempt to go full? I don't know, I've never tried it! But again, I'll always stick to my spot concealing.
The shade range is a little funky (surprising for MAC), but I wear a C1.
Another one that people love to hate. I just want to reiterate here that this is not a foundation. You hear me? It is a tint. Therefore, it's going to add a tint to your skin. No one said anything about coverage. Anyway. I love Skin Tint. On good skin days, bad skin days, you name it. It evens out my redness without hiding my skin at all. Because it's a little dewy, it makes the skin look luscious and plump (although if you're wearing it alllll day you'll want to powder). My only point of annoyance with this is the packaging. I love the little dropper bottle, but it's a pain in the ass to get out. Especially when you're running low, as I am now yikes.
Again, an odd shade range, but I'll let them get away with it because it's so sheer. I wear Medium. (*note that in the photo below I wore it all day with no powder)
This babe is probably best if you're more used to traditional foundations. Although it is becoming disturbingly hard to find (please tell me it's not being discontinued I will cry). Like the Charlotte Tilbury, it has light reflecting particles that help to smooth the appearance of your skin. After letting it sit on the skin for a few minutes, the radiant satiny glow kicks in and there will be a 'wow' moment, promise.
Again, although it does give you a radiance, you don't need to worry about this breaking down on you. In fact, I find that it just looks better and better as I wear throughout the day.
I wear the shade No. 12, Ochre Nude. Read more on this one here.
For someone right in the middle who also has a slightly drier skin, this option is perfection. I'm not typically a fan of 'real' tinted moisturisers. They're often too heavy for my skin, and I just don't like to feel my base products. But this beaut looks and feels divine. It's super lightweight and gives a pretty decent amount of coverage. I'd put it on par with the Charlotte Tilbury. It gives the skin a beautiful radiant finish, more dewy than CT, but less dewy than Glossier. It also manages to last all day on my skin without breaking up. Added bonus that it has an SPF 30 for those of you who forget to wear your sunscreen.
I wear the shade Terre Neuve, which matches my skin perfectly.
Hello, welcome to selfie station. Here's what all of the bases look like on my skin! (I picked photos all in direct sunlight for easy comparison)
Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder - MAC Face and Body - Glossier Skin Tint - Buberry Fresh Glow - Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer
Don't forget, prep is the most important part to creating a skin-like finish so refer back to my Glowy Skin Tricks post!
