The Shiny, Sparkly, Glossy Holiday Edit

hi

I'm not really a sparkly makeup kind of person, but if the holidays aren't the perfect time to make your face look like a disco ball when is? I always love reading Into the Gloss' Holiday Makeup Guide, so I thought this year I'd walking you through my favourite things to give you that shine brighter than my Christmas tree (good luck with that though). Now, I also have absolutely zero holiday plans apart from sitting on the couch in a face mask watching Harry Potter because I'm also not a party kind of person, but these are perfect for your holiday party (again good luck with that).

First of all I implore you to mask frequently before whichever event you're going to. Because you can slap all the sparkly shiny crap on your face that you want, but if your skin is dry and flaky you'll look more Cruella de Vil less J Lo. My recommendation for super glow skin is to start with an exfoliating mask and end with a hydrating one. My favourites are the Complex Beauty Godmother (a pumpkin mask that makes you glowww) and Glossier's Moisturising Moon Mask. This combo leaves your skin plump, hydrated, and mega smooth. The perfect canvas for all the glow!

Base is also super important here, I personally would rather go for a dewy base to get that glow really going, but if your preference is a matte one rock it. I'm loving the Victoria Beckham Morning Aura under my foundation at the moment, it's a moisturizer slash illuminator that makes your skin look like it's covered in diamond dust. However. It is 10000% not worth $95. I got it at work (the Cosmetics Company Store) so if you can get it there it's a better deal, if not go for the Charlotte Tilbury Wonder Glow, MAC Strobe Cream, or Soap and Glory Hocus Focus. For foundation I've picked the Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation. This stuff is seriously a miracle. It makes your skin look smooth and poreless and perfect, but like you're wearing nothing. The finish is nice and glowy without looking sweaty, and has a solid medium coverage. I have started applying this with a brush instead of a beautyblender and it definitely gives it some more coverage.

As ITG says, next up is some overzealous highlight application. THIS IS THE TIME. The time to apply all the dewy glittery glowy greasy highlight and no one can say a word to you. I'm a fan of the Kim Johnson method, aka applying all three Glossier Haloscopes at once. Read here about how to go about that. You might end up looking as angelic as Kim. I'm also loving the Fenty Beauty Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick in Starstruck. This stuff somehow manages to look smooth and glossy, but also be dry, and glittery. Fairly confusing to be honest with you but it is beautiful. This colour is quite icy, but I like the flash it gives you as you turn under lights. Perfect for holiday parties amirite?

This is also the time to drown your body in shimmery sparkly oil. I apply it (the NUXE Huile Prodigieuse Or) all over my chest and shoulders, but if you've got your legs out grease em up! This stuff is incredible. So hydrating and glowy shimmery shiny without looking like you dumped a bucket of glitter on your body. Which you could do.

Now. For the eyes. Possibly the most exciting part because here is where I think you can go the most insane. Just pour glitter all over your lids. Kidding, but you totally could. I do love a good shimmery, sparkly eye. All of these beauties are more like top coats, so you can go mega smoky then pop these on the top...

The Chanel Illusion D'Ombre in New Moon is my long-time sparkly love. It's like burgundy and gold and purple and the 'glitter' is so so so fine, but so shiny. If you look super close it also has green and mauve shimmer, making it super multi-dimensional. I like to layer this one up on it's own for a wash of colour, but it's also incredible over a burgundy shadow or even just brown.

My newest addition is the Dior Diorshow Fusion Mono Shadow in Météore, which is fairly similar to New Moon in terms of texture, but a beautiful bronzey gold. I would say you definitely have to layer it quite a lot to get opaque colour, so I stick to using this as a topper. This is being discontinued so get it. I also recently got the incredible MAC Pigment in Platinum. This looks insane mixed with an oil. Like literal mirror metallic it's crazy. Here's a video where you can sort of see it, but it looks way better in real life.

If you want to go all out, there's nothing quite as good as a proper MAC Glitter. My fave is the og Gold, this stuff gives you some serious sparkle. But be warned it doesn't come off fully for weeks. I was recently sent this Ellis Faas Eye Light in E308 and it is so cool. They're like a liquid shadow in a pen, but dry down and are super duper metallic. Even when dry they look like wet molten metal, the effect is honestly stunning. Definitely want to try some more colours (although I will say they're fairly expensive)! If you'd rather a slightly more subtle eye, the NARS Hardwired Eyeshadow in Stud is a beautiful option. It's a nice taupey-grey with a gorgeous metallic finish that looks incredible on its own or as the spotlight of a smokey eye. Another on the slightly more subtle side is the beautiful Kiko Milano Water Shadow in 200 Champagne which is basically a work of art on its own. I've been afraid to use this because it's so beautiful, but the sheeny shimmery perfect formula is totally worth ruining that pan.

I'm definitely not a sparkly lip person, so I'd reach for the Glossier Birthday Balm dot Com like Adwoa Aboah. This gives you the slight sheen of the normal BDC with added shimmy shimmer without being over the top. If you want to be a little more OTT, the Ellis Faas Lip Light in Soft Gold is super stunning. It's a pale gold creamy formula that you can wear on its own or layer over another lip colour. I'd definitely go for more of a statement red lip during the holidays, which is Fenty Beauty's Stunna Lip Paint in Uncensored all the way.

Do you guys have holiday plans? What looks are you planning?? Let me live vicariously through you!
