Skincare Saviours

In case you haven't noticed, I haven't talked about skincare products in a long time. But it's because I've been using this routine that has worked soooo well for me, and I wanted to properly test it out before I told you. But seriously, these products are actual miracles. My skin has never looked so good and I've never been so happy.

Starting off with the first product that started this skin-saving routine, the By Terry Cellularose Hydra Toner. My friend Emma recommended this to me when we were in New York in march and I was like ya right I'm not buying a $60 toner. But I saw it in duty free on my way back from England in July for $40 so I decided to pick it up. Jiminy freakin' Christmas I should've listened to Emma.

This is called the "Clarifying Comfort Toner," and is meant to be used like a toner but I find it to be more like an essence. ByTerry claims that it "works to shrink pores and pep up the skin, protecting from dryness and tautness to reveal a dewy complexion. With every application, the skin is more balanced, more luminous, smoother, softer and more beautifully cleansed." I want you to focus on the word 'luminous' here, because this stuff brightens your skin like nothing else. it is honestly quite shocking. I find that it leaves my skin looking dewy and glow without any residue, something rare for a typical toning product.

This beaut has a seriously low ingredient list, so I have a bit of trouble figuring out just what makes it so incredible but here we go. Glycerin and Sorbitol, humectants, pull water from the air into the skin. As I always say with humectant rich products if you live in a dry climate, make sure you moisturise well as otherwise the humectant will pull moisture from the deeper layers of your skin. Citric Acid helps to exfoliate the skin, and Rose provides antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and emollient properties. I have had huge success when using rose products in my skincare routine, I've found that they leave my skin bright and hydrated, and really really work to remove pigmentation without being harsh on my skin.

Next up I use my Estée Lauder Micro Essence. This one I've been using for quite some time, but I think using multiple essence-like products has seriously improved the deep down moisture levels in my skin. Also, just fyi, I apply these by pouring several drops into the palms of my hands and pressing it into my skin. This way I'm not wasting product on a cotton round and I really feel like it helps my skin soak the product up (always with clean hands obviously). This product is originally from the Asian market and was then brought over here, so it's made with the ideals of Asian skincare. AKA major hydration and anti-aging. It contains Sodium Hyaluronate to hydrate, Caffeine to firm, and Chamomile to soothe. Since using this, I've definitely noticed more hydrated and brighter skin. I personally find it the closest thing to the SK-II Essence.

Next up is a newbie to my routine, the Kiehl's Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate. This is what I would call the star of the show... I picked this one up on recommendation from my friend Hannah, and after reading hundreds of rave reviews and I'm so so happy I did.I'm honestly a little unsure how this isn't a huge deal in the skincare community because it is incredible. The exfoliating agent is Quinoa Husk Extract, a new one to me. It works to accelerate skin's own cell turnover process revealing fresher, brighter skin. It also contains Fruit Acids, Cactus Extract, and Phytic Acid to further exfoliate without irritating the skin. It's a liquid-gel formula, meaning it goes on incredibly light and sinks in nearly immediately. This stuff is honestly a magic potion. I know I say that a lot but I was honestly shocked by how quickly I saw results.

After only a week of use I noticed a marked difference in the texture of my skin and was surprised at how quickly active acne went away without scarring.

I really try not to talk to you guys about things I'm trying before giving them a full test, but I was bursting to talk about this.

After a month of use most of my scarring has been reduced enough that I don't need to use concealer over my foundation. I really wish I had taken before and after photos because I am stunned. I don't love posting selfies, but I just want to include this one here and ask you to zoom in on my face (yes), because I'm only wearing a lightweight foundation here, and you can see how much the texture of my skin has improved.

I follow this with the Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate, a blend of naturally-derived Lavender, Evening Primrose, and Squalene oils. I love using this, because of its benefits to my skin obviously, but also because the scent is so soothing at bedtime. Evening Primrose oil, full of essential fatty acids, helps the skin maintain its moisture barrier and deeply hydrates. Lavender is calming, but can also be a skin irritant to some, so make sure you do a patch test if you have sensitive skin. Squalene absorbs into skin effortlessly, keeping it soft and hydrated. There's a reason this is one of Kiehl's number one best selling products, it leaves your skin looking fresh, plump, and glowy the next day. I've been a lover of Kiehl's products for a long time and these two new (to my routine) products only cement that love.

Speaking of love, I think I've probably blabbed you all to death about how incredible the Glossier Priming Moisturiser Rich is. It's just honestly the perfect nightly (and daily, honestly) moisturiser. I'm not going to go on about this too much because I have an entire post about it here, but it's the perfect end to any skincare routine.

Have you guys ever tried any of these products? What did you think?

x A
