I've been dying to do makeup interviews (sort of top shelf style) here on the blog forever. But I obviously don't have budget to fly around and take photos of my blogger friend's makeup bags!
So I decided to start closer to home with my coworker and dear friend Hannah. She's the only person I know in real life who's as beauty obsessed as me, so this should be a long one! So here's what's in her every day makeup bag...
H: First thing, I use the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser. I love this because its a fairly basic cleanser, but it works miracles without stripping my skin. Next I use the Pixi Glow Tonic (night and day). I have "bad" (this is me, Amelia, putting that in quotes) acne scars, and it really helps even out my skin. Plus my makeup goes on super smoothly when I use this! Then I put on a ton of Glossier Balm dot Com. I can't decide between the two, but Original and Coconut are my faves. I tend to use Coconut during the day and OG at night because it seems more hydrating to me.
Next up I use the Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream. I like this because again, it's pretty basic. It's not fragranced or heavy, so it's great for acne-prone skin, but is still super hydrating. Lastly during the day I spray on the Heritage Store Rosewater & Glycerin Face Mist. THIS SHIT. It's so hydrating, the glycerin holds water in the skin meaning your skin stays soft and plump all day. I swear by this.
At night, I repeat the same steps but also add in the Kiehl's Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate. This is a godsend. It's helped my acne scarring tremendously, I don't break out as much as I used to, and it's really evened out my skin tone. (I need this -A).
I think it's a good 'peeling' product for more sensitive skin, it feels very gentle. My saviour is the Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion. I've been getting cystic acne lately, so every time I feel something coming I put this on. I swear this makes them go away within two days. It also helps shrink up open blemishes.
For makeup, I prep my skin with the Dr. Brandt Pores No More Refiner. I have some big ass pores and combination skin, so I put this all over. It's mattifying without being too matte, and basically makes your skin look and feel like smooth butter. It has a really nice texture and doesn't break up during the day like some silicone-based primers do. Next I use the Benefit Boi-ing Brightening Concealer to colour correct my acne scars. It's the only thing I've found that doesn't settle into the smile lines around my mouth and actually works under my foundation. Speaking of, my foundation favorite lately has been the Wet N' Wild Photofocus Foundation. In the A/W I tend to like a more full coverage base. It's got a buildable coverage and has a nice satin finish that still keeps my oils at bay. Plus it's dirt cheap. I's compare it to the Dior Diorskin Forever Perfect Foundation. But even better.
After foundation, I use the Glossier Stretch Concealer in Medium. I don't need a ton of coverage under my eyes, but it's super brightening and the more yellow undertone is perfect for my skin. The texture is super light and hydrating but doesn't settle into lines. Then I set is all with Glossier's Wowder. I love this because it really keeps my makeup in place but still feels and looks like skin. It's impossible to get cakey.
On my brows I use the Benefit Precisely My Brow Pencil in the shade 3. This is the most long-wearing brow pencil I've ever tried. I love the ABH, but I go through that pencil so quickly. This is a bit less waxy and lasts me way longer. A little pricier but worth it. I use the Glossier Boy Brow in Brown to set them. This is my favorite brow gel I've ever tried. It's the only thing that sets them down without getting crunchy. I actually also use this on my lower lashes. I have slightly downturned eyes and I always found that black was too harsh. This adds a little extra definition without being over the top.
For my top lashes I use the L'Oreal Lash Paradise. This is THE SAME as the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. I swear. I like to layer my mascara up so it's a liiiiittle clumpy and spidery. This formula is fairly dry so it makes it super easy to build.
To bronze and contour I use the NARS Laguna Bronzer (a cult classic). It's the perfect colour for my skin. It's warm without being orangey and I like that the pigment is buildable. It also gives a slight sheen which adds a lot of dimension to my face. On my cheeks I use the Milani Luminoso blush. Clearly this gets a lot of use. I like the peachy tones on my olive skin because it looks really natural. And again the sheen gives a lit from within glow.
I am obsessed with the Dose Desi + Katy Fuego Highlighter. I think the colour is super universal. It doesn't go grey at all which a lot of lighter highlights tend to do on me. It isn't shimmery or glittery, but almost gives a wet sheen look. I just got the Lancome Matte Shaker in Sand, Sea, Sun. I'm not a big lipstick person, but I love this because I can pat it on the center of my lips and then blend it out with my finger. It has a matte finish without being too matte and is super comfortable to wear. A perfect my lips but better colour. And that's everything in my makeup bag!
I hope you guys enjoyed this, I think it's fun to hear things from someone else's perspective sometimes! Let me know if it's something you'd like to see more of.
